Severo Sarduy

Severo Sarduy was born in 1937 in Camagüey, Cuba. He moved to Paris in 1960, where he lived as a writer of poetry and artistic and literary criticism. His dazzling command of complex language earned him the nickname "millionaire of words". Severo Sarduy died in 1993 at the age of 56.

Gatico-Gatico is a previously unpublished work, and Sarduy's only story for children. Shortly before his death, he submitted this marvelous tale, which he generously agreed to contribute to the En-Cuento collection. He sent the story with the following words.

"Thank you; it gave me so much pleasure that you thought of me for this story. I had as much fun creating the voices of the characters while writing it, as I did reading the finished story."
