Álvaro Mutis Alvaro Mutis, poet and writer,
was born in 1932 in Colombia and has lived in Mexico since 1956. His poems,
stories, novels and essays have won him a number of literary prizes and
awards. La verdadera historia del flautista de Hammelin (The True Story of the Pied Piper of Hammelin), written especially for CIDCLI, is his first story for children. In this retelling of the classic tale, Mutis uses black humor to turn conventional values upside down, turning victim into villain and cruel fate into hilarious irony.
