Andrea Maturana

Andrea Maturana was born in Santiago, Chile in 1969. She studied biology but has always been interested in writing. When she was small, she used to write and illustrate tiny books which she made herself out of carefully folded sheets of paper. When she was older, she began to take part in literary workshops and decided to become a writer.

She received her first writing award at the age of seventeen and has since earned several more.

Andrea Maturana says that being a writer is like any other job, but with one main disadvantage; "to write well, you have to be extra observant, even to the point of picking everything to bits. After a while you realize that you are watching your life more than living it."
Her stories have been published in numerous anthologies, but
La isla de las langostas is her first story for children.
