Ida Vitale

Ida Vitale has spent a number of years that she wishes were countless (to say nothing of the number of hours) writing what she enjoys writing, which sometimes tries to be poetry. Since her childhood, she has also spent her time reading things she likes to read and would love to have written. She still doesn’t really see what children’s literature is supposed to be; perhaps because when she was a girl she read books that were supposed to be for grown-ups but nowadays she likes to read the books which adults, in their wisdom, choose to keep in the children’s room.

Children are lucky in that their books generally have splendid color illustrations, like the world around them. Perhaps the author, who has grandchildren, wrote this story to share, with them and with others, the pictures she has been lucky enough to see.
