Fabio Morábito

I was born in Alexandria, Egypt, the land of Pharaohs and pyramids. I only lived in Egypt for three years, since my parents, who were Italian, returned to Italy, and I lived there until I was fourteen. Then my parents, who apparently did not find themselves at home in any country, decided to move to Mexico. Here, I married a Brazilian.

I always knew that I wanted to be a writer. But when I was a child living in Italy, I never dreamed that I would be a Mexican writer. Nor did I imagine that I would have a Brazilian wife. The road of life has many turns, and one can never see very far ahead along it.

However, some things stay the same, such as pyramids. Egypt, where I was born, has pyramids, and so does Mexico, where I will probably live until I die. But I am not a fan of pyramids; neither Egyptian ones nor Mexican ones. I like balconies better. People don't feel comfortable with pyramids, but everyone likes to go out onto balconies.
A house without a balcony is not a real house. If you took all the stones of all the pyramids in the world, you could build balconies for all the millions of houses that don't have them, and everyone would be happier. If I were president... But I am not, and I wouldn't want to be president, either. They say that presidents don't have time for anything, not even for going out onto balconies.
