Mada Carreño

Mada Carreño was born in Madrid, Spain in 1914. She took part in the Spanish Civil War on the Republican side, participating in the youth movement. It was then that she began writing reports for local newspapers. Near the end of the war, she crossed the Pyrenees on foot and lived for some time in France. She later went to England but ended up in Mexico, where she has written for newspapers, magazines and various literary publications.

La pulga Cecilia is in a certain sense autobiographical, because the author always felt that people do not care enough about each other. This feeling led her to make up a story about a flea who feels so much affection that she can't help biting others. She can't find the answer to her problem, but perhaps someone else will.

Mada Carreño died in October, 2000 at the age of 85.
