Eugenio de Andrade

The poet Eugenio de Andrade was born in 1923 in Póvoa de Atalaya in Portugal to a family of farmers and craftsmen that dates back to the beginning of the century. A childhood spent close to nature instilled in him an intense love for the natural world, reflected in his musical, imaginative poetry. Like his family's traditional rural livelihood, de Andrade's poetry demands laborious craftsmanship. He has never accepted an award, considering instead that writing poetry is honor enough in itself. He is the author of Historia de la yegua blanca
